Aaron Spring

My previous work experience has taught me valuable things, and taken me to fantastic places. Working and living on three different cruise ships offered exciting excursions, and introduced me to new friends from all over the globe. Bartending at a local winery gave me the chance to interact with celebrities and politicians. And years of musical performances lead to playing with Otis Williams and The Temptations live on stage at the Paramount Theater.

Recently, I have been dedicating my time to learning a new set of skills, and I am excited to see where they will take me! Through online classes and other tutorials, I have been learning programming languages such as JavaScript and PHP, as well as concepts like Object Oriented Programming. Writing code has not been the focus in any of my previous jobs, but as I am learning these new languages I am reminded of many concepts and experiences that are directly applicable.

During my time as a sound engineer, efficiency and problem solving were constantly being tested. I created worksheets and methods to successfully manage all of the I/O, staging, and most importantly, testing procedures. Having performed with various professional bands required a lot of self-motivation and patience. Experiences like failing and being motivated to try even harder or creating a powerful synergy with your colleagues can only come from putting in the effort. Although customer service has changed dramatically in the last few years, the interpersonal skills I learned are useful in any position. There will always be opportunities to up-sell an idea or to even talk yourself out of a deal, and knowing how to work with people from different backgrounds and deliver what they want is paramount for sales as well as development.

Though I may not have the typical background of a developer, I am driven to put my work experiences and new knowledge to the test. I am excited about the process of building something new, working on a team with intelligent people who will challenge me to become better, and incorporating new languages and concepts into my work.
